Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī was a 13th century poet, faqih, Sufi mystic, and scholar from Persia.
Rumi’s words transcend national borders and ethnic divisions, and he has consistently ranked among the world’s most popular poets for the past seven centuries. He remains a best-selling poet in the United States.
Rumi’s works were mostly written in Persian, but he also wrote in Turkish, Greek, and Arabic. Today, his poems have been translated into many different languages and are sold across the world in collections like The Essential Rumi and Rumi: The Book of Love.
Though he is known across the world simply as Rumi, his real name Jalal ad-Din is an Arabic word that means “glory of the faith.” His poems and other writings are concerned with love, peace, faith, and finding happiness.
Here are 200 of the finest Rumi quotes to bring you light, joy, and love. We hope you enjoy them!
“The truth was a mirror in the hands of God. It fell, and broke into pieces. Everybody took a piece of it, and they looked at it and thought they had the truth.”
