1. Inspired Gift Ideas

Though it seems like she has it all, I assure you that the woman who has everything doesn’t really have everything! When you really need a tangible gift to exchange, but you don’t want to fight it out with other people in stores – we’ve got you covered. Here are our top picks for 2018:

The Wellbeing Gift: The Spire Stone. This amazing gadget is the world’s first stress and activity tracker. Labelled “the Fitbit for your mind,” Spire Stone works by measuring your breath patterns and notifying you to any sudden changes. When your breathing becomes rapid or erratic, Spire Stone gives you a gentle reminder and a series of actionable steps (to your linked phone) to help you deal with stress.

Although it can be used to measure steps, activity and calories, it is much more than a fitness tracker. By actively encouraging mindfulness, Spire Stone aims to help you have a healthy body and mind. It’s sleek design makes it the perfect gift for her or for anyone, and it is a must for anyone who struggles with stress or anxiety.

To Learn a New Skill: Handlettering 101 by Chalkfulloflove. Beautiful hand lettering and calligraphy is going through a real boom right now, and you don’t have to be a pro to enjoy it. The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to learn a new skill, and this is the perfect step-by-step guide.

Created by Instafamous Chalkfulloflove, this spiral-bound project book teaches you uppercase and lowercase lettering, numbers, how to join letters and add flourishes to your lettering projects. It also doubles as a beautiful coffee table book!

The Beauty Must-Have: Unless you’ve been living under a stone (pun intended), you’ll have noticed that one of the beauty crazes of 2018 has been the jade facial roller. Used to increase facial muscle tone, reduce puffiness around the eyes, and fight the signs of ageing, the jade roller can be used warm, cold, or to apply creams and oils to the face. It doubles as a pretty object and a luxe part of her beauty regime! This one comes in a handy pouch for travel.

Girls, we all know that men are incredibly hard to buy for. They say they like everything, but the inevitable gifts – pyjamas and socks, tools and booze – creep under the tree every year. We’ve compiled a list of inspired, unexpected gifts for him to make this year’s gift the best ever.

Christmas Present, Past and Future: The 23andMe DNA Test. The perfect gift for the man who is hard to buy for! A super easy and convenient way to find out much more than just your average ancestry report, the 23andMe test provides information about ancestry, genetic health risks, your wellness, carrier status, and inherited traits.

When you order a 23andMe test as a gift for someone, they will receive a saliva sample kit within 3-5 days. It is sent back in a prepaid envelope, and 6-8 weeks later a fully comprehensive report is available to view via an online portal. An inspiring way to start the new year!

For Christmas Spirit(s): Whatever his favorite drink, you’ll find something to help him make the most of it from Corkcicle. From whisky wedge glasses to in-bottle beer and wine coolers, purified ice sphere makers, cigar holding glasses, and sweat-free cocktail shakers, they have something suitable for every guy on your list. Skip the inevitable bottle bag gift and give him something practical and memorable instead.

The Can’t-Live-Without-It Gadget: The KeySmart Pro. This is a seriously cool gadget, despite its small size. It can store up to 14 keys, which securely fasten in and fold inwards like a pen knife. No more jangling keys in pockets, and no need for multiple rings for home and office. While you’re at it, add some accessories – you can slot a penknife, LED light, bottle opener and many others into the KeySmart alongside your keys.

The best feature? If you’ve ever misplaced your keys and wish you could call them up to find them, this is the gadget for you! By syncing KeySmart with an app on iOS or Android, it makes a noise to help you locate your lost keys faster.

The Creative Gift: 3D Printing Pen. 3D printing technology is one of the great advances of the year, and kids will love using this gadget to turn their drawings into 3D projects. It works using PLA or ABS filament and a heating element, while the temperature and flow of the material is controlled using a QLED screen and buttons. 12 colors of PLA filament (10ft of each) are included with the pen for your first projects and refills are available. Whether they want to make badges, beads to adorn jewelry, or models, imagination is the only limit on this gift!

To Inspire Them: The Little People, Big Dreams series is a best-selling series of books aimed at introducing children to extraordinary women and their achievements. Available as board books and hardcover editions, the information included expands as your child grows and migrates from board book to chapter book.

Choose from gift sets including “women of art” and “women of science,” or learn about notable individuals like Anne Frank, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Coco Chanel, Frida Kahlo. The editions are beautiful and form a wonderful, inspirational library for boys and girls, from toddlers to young readers.

Encouraging Healthy Habits: The Octopus Joy smartwatch for kids is the perfect way to encourage kids to form healthy habits and become more independent in the new year. It’s the first icon based smartwatch and was engineered to teach kids the concept of time and encourage them to follow a routine. Parents download a free app for iOS or Android which allows them to schedule tasks and chores.

Through gentle vibration and visual cues, children are reminded throughout the day of the schedule that has been set in place. There are over 700 visual reminder icons to choose from, making it fully personalizable for you and your child’s needs. They’ll enjoy wearing the smartwatch (which has a hypoallergenic band, and is available in red and blue) and benefit from the greater sense of organization and independence it encourages.

2. The Gifts that Keep Giving

Subscription boxes are becoming increasingly popular – and with good reason! There are options to suit all tastes and budgets, from beauty samples to flowers, new outfits, shaving supplies, socks, ties and underwear. The premise of the subscription box is simple and perfect for gifting: instead of opening just one gift on Christmas Day or their birthday, the recipient gets a new box every month. Whether you go for three months, six months, or a whole year is entirely up to you.

Just as the contents of subscription boxes vary considerably, so too does the cost. We’ve got the lowdown on boxes for the ladies, gents, and kids on your gift list, whatever your budget.

Subscription Boxes For HER

One of the first subscription beauty services, Birchbox is still going strong. This is definitely one of the more affordable options for women, and you can choose to gift a subscription for 3 months, 6 months, a year, or pay per month.

Each month, a beauty box containing 5 personalized beauty samples arrives at her door – and shipping is free so there are no additional costs.

A Birchbox is a great way to try new things – in terms of make-up, haircare and skincare – and is perfect for those who want to prioritize looking after themselves in the New Year. Whether you know what she likes or not, this is a great subscription option. All you need to do is provide her name and email address and Birchbox will do the rest. Using a unique code sent to her by email, she’ll fill out the rest of her information and preferences to ensure she gets the beauty products she wants on a month by month basis. Birchbox routinely offers goodie bags and extra deals when signing up for a subscription, so be sure to check out the latest offers!

For the lady who must have flowers always and always, there is Bouqs. This is a completely customizable service and the perfect gift from husbands, fiances, and boyfriends for the special lady in your life. Whether your gal loves casual farmers market-style flowers, classic florals or beautiful roses, you can pick a plan that suits her best. You can also choose how often you want the flowers delivered – weekly, every two weeks, monthly, or every two months – and the size of bouquet. Bouqs isn’t quite as affordable as Birchbox, but its a good mid-range gift and there are lots of options. It also takes the hassle and uncertainty out of buying flowers regularly, because you know you’ll always get seasonal flowers in beautiful condition. Again, keep an eye out for offers: Bouqs routinely reduces the cost per bouquet.

Last but by no means least is the luxe subscription option for her, which is Must Have from PopSugar. Rather than a monthly option, PopSugar offers quarterly boxes which are carefully curated for each season. You can sign up for a single season (spring, summer, fall, and winter) or take an annual membership and save. Shipping is always free.

Rather than just offering just one type of product, PopSugar curates a selection of items – homewares, fashion, jewelry, and beauty – that are appropriate for the season. Each item is carefully selected, packaged and delivered to you at the start of the season so you can enjoy it all season long. Although this is a pricier option as far as subscription gifts go, you are guaranteed that the contents of the box are worth at least three times the subscription cost.

Brands like Kendra Scott, Benefit, Lancer, Deborah Lippmann, and Canvas Home have featured in the previous boxes, and girls are loving the curated collections of goodies they receive. Once you’ve subscribed (or received a gift subscription) you’ll get to preview some of the items in the box and add on extra items if you feel like splurging. Whoever you’re gifting to, the girl who receives a PopSugar subscription will feel very lucky indeed.

Subscription Boxes For HIM

Subscription boxes aren’t just for girls, and there are an ever-increasing number of boxes that are created just for men. In terms of a low cost option, Harry’s offers “Shave Plans” which take the hassle out of daily shaving and make sure you’re never caught short without a new blade. Harry’s have been producing their own razors and high quality shaving supplies in Germany since 2013. They recently expanded to sell their products in Target, but you can get the whole range of grooming and skincare online.

Starter sets range in price and there are lots of add on products too. If you aren’t sure what he would like or need, choose from a range of holiday gift sets from Harry’s. It’s a great way for him to try out the products and work out whether a shaving subscription is worthwhile.

Our second pick for him is the SprezzaBox. The name comes from the Italian sprezzatura, which was first used in the sixteenth century in The Book of Courtier by Baldassare Castiglione. History aside, it has come to be used to describe a gentleman with an effortless sense of style. If this sounds like the guy on your Christmas list, the SprezzaBox is the ideal solution. Each month, he’ll receive between 4 and 6 carefully selected fashion accessories – ties, bowties, pocket squares, socks, sunglasses, grooming products and other items – straight to his door.

The Sprezzabox is a mid-range offering, but you’re guaranteed to receive products that are worth much much more than the price of the subscription. Previous boxes can be viewed online and it’s possible to buy additional accessories and “premium boxes” in their own online store. Subscriptions are available for 6 months, 12 months, or a on a month-by-month basis. SprezzaBox offers substantial discounts and freebies on a routine basis, so be sure to check them out before purchasing your subscription. If you’re looking for a thoughtful but effortless gift for the guy who takes pride in his appearance and loves to change up his style, SprezzaBox is the one.

Last but not least, start his new year the healthy way with a quarterly subscription box from Mens Health. These boxes ship out every 90 days, and each contains a selection of fitness, health, nutrition, style and grooming products that have been curated for the season ahead. Like the PopSugar box, this is at the pricier end of the spectrum, but these quarterly boxes contain items of a much higher value than the subscription cost. If you aren’t really sure what he likes, or want to support him in losing weight, getting fit, and taking better care of himself, this is the subscription to go for.

Shipped out in Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, the Mens Health box can be bought season by season or as an annual subscription.

Subscription Boxes For KIDS

If you want to inspire kids and feed their imagination, the ideal gift is a subscription from BookRoo. Offering a wide range of carefully selected and tested books, BookRoo offers boxes for ages 0-6 and 7-10. All of the books included in the boxes go through a review process, with experts and librarians working with 12 families (and 22 children) living on Stanford University’s campus where at least one of the spouses is pursuing a graduate degree. The books are vetted by children for children before they are carefully packed and sent out.

BookRoo’s box for younger children features a mixture of board books and picture books, while 7-10 year olds are sent a selection of chapter books. Each monthly box contains 2-3 titles, so over time you get to build up your own children’s library with minimum effort. This is a surprisingly affordable subscription box and although shipping costs extra, there are discounts available to new subscribers. There’s even a special discount if you have two children in different age brackets. There is no better gift than inspiring kids to love reading this Christmas!

The last subscription box on our list is from StitchFix. Technically, this is a gift that can be given to whoever, because you are giving a gift card rather than an actual box. StitchFix works the same way for men, women, and children – you fill out a detailed “style profile” about likes, dislikes, wants, and needs, and each month a box of clothing and accessories that have been hand-picked by a personal stylist. There is a monthly styling fee per month, but that cost is redeemable against the value of the items you want to keep.

StitchFix is perfect for anyone who feels too busy to shop, wants advice on their style, or who loves adding new finds to their closet. For kids, 8-12 items – clothes, shoes, and accessories – are sent each month, all hand picked to suit their style and interests. These are delivered in a box with a stylish note sent directly to the kid, so they can try-on to their heart’s content. If you decide to keep everything, you get 25% off the value of all of the items (you pick the budget), or you can send what you don’t want back in a prepaid envelope. Gift cards can be used against the $20 styling fee and the box contents. This is a great gift for school-age children who are taking an active interest in clothing and style, because it gives them a sense of independence in their wardrobe choices.

This is by no means a complete list of all the subscription boxes out there, but a list of our favorites! With a little research you can find the right box for that difficult to please person on your list this year.

3. Inspire Adventure

Last on our list, but by no means least, consider gifting an experience rather than a thing this year. Gifts are nice, but supporting someone’s dream to experience something new, or to go somewhere special is even better. Gift cards are easily available to help support…

Flights: Help them to jet off to new places or to see distant family next year. Various denominations are available for purchase (and even email delivery) towards flights and fees with Southwest Airlines.

Accommodation: Whether they’re backpacking around Europe or desperate to escape on a two night staycation, find gift cards for AirBnB and on Amazon. You can choose whether you want to send a physical gift card or an electronic one.

Once in a lifetime experiences: From private gondola rides down the Venetian Grand Canal to bungee jumping, New Orleans Jazz cruises and local food tours, the Tinggly Experience Gift Voucher offers 550+ experience options for them to choose from in over 100 countries. It’s sure to make their trip the best ever.
